TENT UGANDA

In 2009 I visited Uganda and introduced TENT. The response was very positive. People, skills, resources, commitment, courage and a unified mind are required to further any possibilities here.

TENT Jamaica

During the 4 years spent in J.A we had the opportunity to transform this building using natural and waste materials. We practiced cultivation of crops and tried our hand at raising chickens, goats and rabbits; We cooked on an open fire coal pot daily. Despite the many challenges, living a more natural and self reliant lifestyle felt like I was home.  The need to provide a service to the community was evident - I was living my purpose; using my gifts, my qualities, and natural talents to bring benefit and beauty to wherever I am, in whichever capacity I am able.

Going back to basics and reconnecting with nature; rebuilding self and structures I discovered was a healthier and more productive way to live. It gives room for free reign and ingenuity with a splash of creativity. We grew most of our own food, ate in season (plentiful) and raised livestock. The women of the community would stop by to purchase our home grown food-kind or herbals or to spend a moment for a chat. An after-school program for the youth of the local community grew organically!

In 2004 when hurricane Ivan hit the island, a number of families' homes were damaged; we had the space to accommodate so we opened house to a number of families; the act of supporting those in need created a community spirit which developed a closer relationship between us and the people of the village.

Although our travels were fraught with a few dangerous and disturbing encounters the experience made us more resilient, determined, creative and courageous.
From Philadelphia, to New York, Seattle, Oklahoma, Colorado; Down through New Mexico, Arizona and last of all; California. For the latter part of our 2 year journey we received a van from a family in Oklahoma. Once we customized it to our needs we were able to continue along our way more self sufficiently. We were blessed by others with supplies to support our journey. The idea behind this part of the movement was to live and learn from different communities about sustainable ways and techniques to build Intentional communities.
